As if you didn't know, that is Professor Jeff Newman on the left and me on the right. I attended his one week advanced teacher's course in June 1977. I had already attended a few of his 1 and 2 day seminars, in London, Ontario as it was a short few hour drive from our home in Mich. We enjoyed the trips and It was always good to see Jeff and get charged up again.

I am highly impressed with Jeff in every way, as an individual, as a Gentleman, A teacher, a musician, and a pedal steel player. He has always got it all together. I wondered where he gets all his energy. He pioneered a new way to teach Pedal Steel Guitar and it Works!

This was our class of June 1977. I am 3rd from the left. Forgive me, but I can't remember all the names. One is Marcus Wise, Harry Guffee, I think Bill Jobes. But I will tell you there were a lot of very good players in that class. We went to Bradleys Barn and all recorded, they went to watch Jeff do a session and went backstage of the Grand Old Opry. I didn't go as I caught a cold and got a ear infection and didn't have my usual energy. I didn't even bring my Red ShoBud professional to the recording session. I just played another guys pp Emmons.

Here is me on the left and Jeff on the outside and Hal Rugg in the Middle. He was the thrusday night artist of the week and played great. I got it all on cassette tape. We were talking about tunings and it seemed that He used E6 on his bottom neck, same as I did. But he had a lot of different pulls on it that I did not have. I remember him playing "All the Things you are", he just tore it up. When he got done, Jeff said "Have you got another one like that". Hal Rugg is a great musician.
